The unique Fred Friendly Seminars format asks panelists to play “roles” within a hypothetical scenario and to take actions in complex decision-making situations where there may be no one “right” answer. Confronting urgent social, ethical and public policy issues as wide-ranging as affirmative action, end-of-life care, national energy policy and bioterrorism, panelists must decide not what they think about a difficult situation, but what they would do. Panelists range from Presidents to Generals to CEOs to citizens grappling with challenges in their lives. As Fred Friendly said, “Our job is to make the agony of decision-making so intense you can escape only by thinking.”
