Films for the Humanities & Sciences Is Now Films Media Group
Lawrenceville, NJ (November 9, 2004) — PRIMEDIA’s Films for the Humanities & Sciences (FFH&S), the leading source of educational media products in North America, recently renamed itself Films Media Group (FMG) to better define the company’s relationship to its four constituent product brands: Cambridge Educational, Meridian Education, Shopware, and the eponymous Films for the Humanities & Sciences.
Since all four FMG product brands are parallel, it was decided that an overarching non-product-related brand was needed to act as a corporate umbrella. But the decision to rename the company was not made lightly. The inherent risks associated with any company name change include the very real possibility of customer confusion—“I don’t know FMG.”—and loss of confidence—“FMG doesn’t know me.”
FMG corporate literature has been quick to point out that the company behind the new name is still the company its customers have trusted for decades:
“We still offer high-quality video and interactive media. You can still trust us for accuracy, value in the classroom, and real-world relevance. Our collection still provides thousands and thousands of titles from world-class producers on the widest selection of academic topics. In fact, the only thing that has changed is that we are adding a remarkable new digital platform to our DVD, VHS, and other content delivery systems.”
The digital platform alluded to at the end of the paragraph is an “anywhere, anytime” digital video delivery system that currently employs four separate components—two Internet-based, two non-Internet-based—to address the technology profiles of FMG’s diverse customer base. FMG is also in the process of correlating its educational media collection so that its products will be state-standard compliant. These initiatives testify to the fact that this company remains committed to identifying and fulfilling its customers’ needs—whatever it chooses to call itself.
