This Wide Angle documentary examines economic empowerment programs designed to help transfer more of the nation’s wealth and opportunity to its black majority. Focusing on Uthingo, the consortium of black-empowerment companies that manages the national lottery, the program shows how the group has created thousands of new jobs for black South Africans—while broad social change, including black ownership and participation in other industries, is slow in coming.
