Aerospace Technology: Lighter-Than-Air Vehicles

Once known as "Ships of the Sky," blimps were believed to be the future of transportation. This fascinating video follows the evolution of lighter-than-air travel from the invention of the first rigid airship in 1897 to the current generation of promotional blimps. Including rare historic footage of various ships, the video discusses the use of "zeppelins" in WWI as observation and attack vehicles, and their postwar use for intercontinental luxury travel. British and American efforts to compete with German production are also outlined, along with the advances in design that were achieved over the years. Finally, the video explores how the newest generation of LTA vehicles, such as the Goodyear blimp, are continuing the legacy of lighter-than-air travel. One 56-minute video. A Shopware Production.
