When parents find that they must leave their newborn child at the hospital for treatment, reactions vary. Medical workers and staff must be sensitive to the needs of these parents and understand that families cope with their situations in different ways. This program addresses how doctors and staff can actively encourage parents’ participation in the care of their hospitalized child, recognize the parent as the child’s advocate, and answer the parents’ concerns about their child’s situation.
