During the violence of the Amin and Obote regimes, the Ugandan school system fell into ruins. However, Uganda is a country that strongly believes in the value of education. Since Yoweri Musevenis rise to power, the Ugandan government has instituted reforms that are successfully improving the quality and accessibility of primary education. This program describes the nature of these far-reaching reforms, which include in-service teacher training, wide dissemination of textbooks, government and private funding, higher salaries for teachers, and the services of skilled outreach tutors, who assist teachers and boost community involvement. Despite the urgent need for more schools and high-quality educators, current successes have already demonstrated that a better education can help increase self-reliance and reduce povertya valued lesson for Uganda and all who are willing to listen.
