Burn Surgery

For burn patients, only treatment that is as swift as it is skillful will offer the best chance to minimize scarring. In this program, the father/son team of Drs. Richard and Peter Grossman performs reconstructive surgery on the hands, arms, neck, and face of a man with second-degree burns. Each stage of wound care is clearly explained, from hydrotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments, to the preparation of the wound bed via debridement and temporary homografts, to the harvesting and applying of autografts from the thighs and scalp. A dermabrader, a dermatone, and other tools are examined. A Discovery Channel Production. (47 minutes)
