Pediatric Brain Surgery

This program focuses on the removal of a massive malignant tumor from the parietal-occipital region of a 4-year-old girl’s brain by pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson, of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. The entire operation—the opening of the scalp, skull, and dura mater; the exposing of the tumor; the removal of a sample for biopsy; the de-bulking of the tumor, a process assisted by high-tech computer imaging; and the reconstruction of the cranium—is thoroughly documented, as well as the child’s parents’ heroic efforts to come to terms with the painful prognosis. A Discovery Channel Production. (47 minutes)
