Limb Reconstruction

An elbow crushed in childhood had meant a lifetime of worsening pain for a 43-year-old man. Could joint replacement surgery ease his suffering and help his arm to function normally? In this program, orthopedic/plastic surgeon L. Scott Levin, of Duke University Medical Center, performs an elbow allograft, preceded by a major skin graft designed to surround the area to be reconstructed. Each stage of both operations is clearly illustrated, including the locating of key nerves and arteries, preparation of the donor elbow, splicing-in of the new joint, and soft-tissue reconstruction. A Discovery Channel Production. (47 minutes)
