School Violence

Studies indicate that children who are exposed to violence at home or in the media are prone to elevated levels of anxiety and to committing violent acts themselves. In this program, noted correspondent Betty Ann Bowser reports on the success of New Haven’s community-based outreach program that allies the police department, the Yale Child Study Center, and other agencies to promote safety and curb violence through mentoring, intervention, and after-school programs for school-age children. Eight other cities have since adopted the New Haven model. (20 minutes)
