Critical Condition: America’s Obesity Crisis

In the United States, people with low incomes tend to weigh more than the affluent, but a causal link between poverty and obesity is still a subject of debate. This ABC News program examines evidence for a link, with the addition of thoughtful commentary on personal responsibility from host Ted Koppel. Focusing on an economically struggling Detroit community in which fast food is prevalent and grocery stores are scarce, the video gathers the experiences of neighborhood residents and healthcare professionals into a powerful study of a dangerous cultural trend—and a moving glimpse into the lives of people for whom that trend is an everyday reality. (22 minutes)
