Astronomers have detected hundreds of extrasolar planets in recent years, and the pace of discovery shows no sign of letting up. Are any of these far-off worlds comparable to Earth? This program visits observational sites around the globe in search of answers. Journeying to La Palma in the Canary Islands, the film examines sophisticated telescopes like the compact SuperWASP, a boon to exoplanet hounds. Next stop: the French observatory where scientists first spotted a planet orbiting a sun-like star. Refocusing on our own solar system, the Cassini-Huygens expedition evokes Earthlike aspects of two of Saturn’s moons, while Dr. Wesley Traub of NASA’s Navigator program describes his team’s quest for rocky worlds. Original Open University broadcast title: Other Worlds. (30 minutes)
