The Brain Fitness Program

A person who is 50 years old today has a good chance of living into his or her mid-80s—but with that longevity comes a higher likelihood of a decline in brain function as life nears its end. With this in mind, neuroscientists have created a system for strengthening the brain and improving its performance. In this documentary, Michael Merzenich of The University of California, San Francisco, and his colleagues share their scientifically based set of brain exercises. They have named these exercises The Brain Fitness Program: computer-based stimulus sets that drive beneficial chemical, physical, and functional changes in the brain. The exercises are based on the concept of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and even rewire itself. Distributed by PBS Distribution. (60 minutes)
