The Big Picture: Army Medicine

In this classic episode of The Big Picture, the U.S. Army’s television series, the show focuses on Army medicine, which has played an important role in times of conflict since the Revolutionary War. The members of the Army Medical Service have been the tireless, constant companions of the foot soldier. This engaging video from the National Archives and Records Administration shows the challenges faced by the Army Medical Service during World War I as well as the landings at the Normandy Beachhead during World War II. In addition, action in the Pacific depicts the medics that landed with the first waves, bringing equipment and supplies, which made the difference between life and death to the island-hopping soldiers.
