This second-part of a four-part series shows how the melting pot of music is stirred into an entirely new genre. As told by the artists themselves, Puerto Ricans and other Latinos in New York combine the Cuban son (sound) with the Puerto Rican plena beat. By taking a fiery Latino vibe and adding elements from soul and jazz, they create the sound—now renowned worldwide—of salsa music. This vibrant and distinct style would become a defining rhythm for Latinos the world over for many years to come. Part of the series Latin Music U.S.A. Distributed by PBS Distribution. (60 minutes)
