The typical tourist snapshot rarely does justice to exotic locations or unfamiliar surroundings. Determined to put a stop to this trend, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Martin Parr guides a class of amateurs through the art of taking memorable vacation photos. Martin uses his own witty photographic observations of tourism as a starting point to show his students how to turn mundane views into extraordinary perspectives. Topics include engaging with local people, emphasizing certain emotions, avoiding clichés, telling a story, considering differences and similarities with regard to one’s home environment, deciding whether to focus on details or the “big picture,” and more.
