The Nature and Transmission of AIDS

This program shows how, in the most severe cases, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) depresses the immune system, leaving the infected individual open to a range of opportunistic infections, leading, seemingly inevitably, to death. The program also addresses the problems that arise from the long incubation period of the virus and clarifies how the virus can and cannot be transmitted—an area in which there is ongoing confusion. (20 minutes)
