Water and stone are the elements of Rome; joined in fountains, they create the essence that is the Eternal City. This program looks at the history, the architecture, and the artistry of Romes fountains, following Giovanni Battista Faldis 1691 guide and juxtaposing his marvelous drawings with the living reality. Among the fountains examined are the Fontana di Trevi, Santa Maria in Trastevere, the Rotonda on the Pantheon square, the Fountain of Aracoeli, the Dea Roma, and fountains by Bernini, Boromini, and many others.
