Despite Livia's pleas, Augustus will not allow Tiberius to return to Rome. He has also taken Gaius' sudden and inexplicable death badly. Morals are degenerating everywhere in Rome, Augustus' daughter Julia having entertained half the Roman nobility. Then Lucius suddenly dies. Tiberius is summoned back to Rome, where he meets up again with his mother and the aging Augustus, who has made Postumus his heir.
