Depression

For one in ten Americans, depression is a debilitating disease with life-threatening implications. In this program, host Kat Carney investigates the causes and symptoms of this frequently misunderstood illness, as well as the DSM-IV diagnosis criteria and proven treatments including psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, expressive art therapy, and electroconvulsive therapy. Bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, and depression induced by life events such as winning the lottery are also covered, along with advances in brain imaging and pharmaceutical research.
