Serving God: A Second Career

Dedicating one’s life to the service of God as a priest, rabbi, minister, sister, or brother—a decision young people in the past often made while still in school—has become a far more difficult choice in contemporary America. This CBS News special presents the new realities in religious vocations by examining the lives of seminarians and rabbinical and ministerial candidates. As the program shows, individuals who make this choice today tend to be older and more worldly, often choosing the religious life after having held positions of responsibility in the outside world for many years.
