Young Minds: Is Zero-to-Three Destiny?

True or false: Mozart’s music can have a lasting impact on the growth of a baby’s brain. In this program, NewsHour correspondent Betty Ann Bowser explores that question by talking with members from both camps in the heated debate over the developmental significance of the first three years of life. Skeptics include John Bruer, author of The Myth of the First Three Years, and Harvard child psychologist Jerome Kagan, while Yale child psychiatrist Kyle Pruett, holding his ground, argues in defense of the crucial nature of a child’s early years. And neurologist Harry Chugani? He demurs, with a qualified "Maybe." (11 minutes)
