The concept of truth is, by its very nature, broader than the terms used to define it. To what degree, then, can truth be quantified? In this classic program, Sir Peter Strawson and the late Gareth Evans, both of the University of Oxford, collaborate in an attempt to arrive at an undifferentiated concept of truth by analyzing the similarities and differences among truth statements made in ordinary language. In the course of their discussion, they delve into the semantic theory of truth, define primary and extended senses of truth, and apply their conclusions to empirical facts, arithmetic, higher mathematics, logic, and morals.
