Ramon Sender: Perceptions of a Life—in Spanish

Perhaps Spain’s best-known novelist before the Spanish Civil War, Ramon Sender belonged to the social narrative and existential schools and was a member of the vaunted Generation of 1925. When his wife and family were killed in the war, he fled into exile during which time he wrote some of his finest works. In this program, location footage, archival photos, and realia are combined with the thoughtful commentary of literary critic Rafael Conte, writers Jose Luis Castillo Puche and Francisco Carrasquer, family members, and friends in a discussion of Sender’s rich record of accomplishment. His 64 novels and numerous short stories, plays, poems, and essays were each a journey of discovery as he explored social injustice, faith and redemption, and his new life in the New World. (Spanish, 58 minutes)
