In this program, Kenneth Woodward, author of Making Saints; members of the Bollandists, editors of the Acta Sanctorum; and Tim Unsworth, columnist for the National Catholic Reporter, scrutinize a spectrum of candidates for canonization, including Pierre Toussaint, Matt Talbot, Dorothy Day, and Archbishop Oscar Romero. In the process, they and others trace the evolution of the Christian saint-making process, from antiquity to modern times; enumerate the saintly qualifications and the stages of sainthood; and examine the belief in relics as focal points of a saint’s intercessory power.
