Digital Magic: The Revolution in Film and TV

In section one of this program, NewsHour correspondent Spencer Michels reports on the budding digital film industry. Inexpensive and easy to use, digital video cameras and editing software enable independent filmmakers and students alike to create features and documentaries—and they use the Internet as a ready distribution channel. In section two, correspondent Terence Smith examines the successor to the VCR: the Personal Video Recorder, which feeds broadcasts through a hard drive, allowing viewers to pause a program, do an instant replay, or record programs for later viewing. WebTV, which allows viewer interaction with the Internet and live broadcasts, is also presented. (23 minutes)
