Throughout the ’80s, we heard a lot from the religious right about virtue and sin, goodness and evil, the Bible and the devil. Forrester Church speaks from the other side, the liberal wing of Protestantism. As a college student, he was certain about a lot of things, including the fact that his father, the late Senator Frank Church of Idaho, was wrong about everything. Now, as the dynamic pastor of All Souls Unitarian Church, he confronts the ambiguities and contradictions of a ministry in the heart of New York City. In this program with Bill Moyers, Church explores why even the faithful should cultivate their doubts, how we should question our virtues, and what we could learn from an evening with Jerry Falwell.
