There are predictions that, by the year 2020, one quarter of the world’s population will be Moslem. Islam is growing so fast that already there are more Muslims in America than Episcopalians, and soon Muslims will outnumber Jews here. Understanding Islam is all the more imperative as America has become increasingly involved in Muslim countries. Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, a scholar of Islamic studies at George Washington University, has written extensively on Islamic science, philosophy, and art. In this program with Bill Moyers, Nasr discusses the roots of Islam’s attitudes toward the West, how Islam and the West can coexist, and the current Western presence in the Middle East. (30 minutes)
