Combinatorics

This animated six-part series begins with a discussion of permutations, with special emphasis given to the importance of arrangement. With the introduction of factorial notation, a general formula is derived for the permutations of r elements in a set of n. Attention is also given to the special cases where some elements are alike. The concept of a combination is presented as well as a demonstration of the distinct difference between a subset and an arrangement. Some applications of combinatorics in practical situations are explored along with extensions to these principles that can be used in the area of probability. 6-part series, 10 minutes each.
