The Sonora Desert

The Sonora Desert runs from the southwestern United States to northern Mexico—part of the thirst belt in the northern hemisphere. This program probes beneath the appearance of desolation to reveal a world of living things that have adapted to life in the desert. It shows how plants acquire and save the sparse water resources and avail themselves of spectacular colors to attract pollinating birds and insects in the short time in which they can propagate; and it shows how animals withstand the heat of the day, forage for food, and protect themselves from predators for whom they are themselves the food. Cacti, insects, reptiles, birds, and mammals are nowhere more obviously interdependent than in the Sonora Desert. An RTVE production. (28 minutes)
