The Tropical Rainforest

The rainforest is home to the highest concentrations of life on Earth. This program shows us the South and Central American rainforests—a plethora of different worlds, of sharp and subtle contrasts cloaked in the uniform covering of the forest. Survival is the driving force and we see a vast array of protective devices: spines, camouflage, imitation of more deadly animals, poison; conversely, there are offensive tactics like ferocity and overwhelming superiority in numbers, illustrated most graphically by various species of ants. Of the legendary quetzal, we learn about its elusive natural habitat, its mythical role in Aztec life, and its lamentable role in the conquest of Mexico. An RTVE production. (27 minutes)
