Wetlands of South America

This program shows us animal and plant life in a variety of ecosystems all categorized by the term "wetlands." Flood zones, coastal mud flats, and mangrove swamps are all geographically unique but all are rich in birdlife. Here we observe different adaptations for finding and eating food in a watery environment—legs for wading, eyes for sighting, beaks for dabbling or catching food. Other animals, too, have adapted to these environments, from the hermit crab, to the marsh deer, whose specialized hooves enable it to walk in swamps without sinking, to the American flamingos who breed in the Yucatan and have one of the best food-filtering systems in the animal kingdom. An RTVE production. (28 minutes)
