Eye on Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, robbing people of their sight slowly and painlessly. Because there are usually no symptoms or pain, people are often not aware they have a problem and don’t get diagnosed until it’s too late. This program profiles several victims of the disease, explaining their symptoms and treatment, and why people may sometimes be afraid to be examined for the disease. An ophthalmologist explains the two major types of glaucoma, how they are diagnosed and treated, and the risk factors for developing the disease. The program stresses the need for people to get thorough eye exams because blindness from glaucoma is preventable with the proper treatment. (19 minutes)
