The problem of expressing immense numbers led mathematicians to the development of the power and its components—the base and the exponent. In this program, rules for working with more than one power are established. The program also shows how to work with powers with an exponent of zero, less than zero, and a fraction. An explicit connection between the idea of roots and fractional exponents is drawn. (10 minutes)
