Sprocket’s Exponent

Exponential relations can be derived for many real-world situations such as financial calculations or natural processes. This is illustrated by using a bacterial culture and the half-life decay of a radioactive element. Examples of the utility of exponential functions are also shown using the concepts of principal, interest, interest rate, and compound interest. Finally, the classic "chessboard" problem is introduced to illustrate the power of compound interest. (10 minutes)
