Fascism

This program looks at the appeal of fascist ideologies in the 20th century. In Germany, racism was an essential part of the Nazi state. The Nazi idea of creating a pure Germanic race to dominate the world demanded the extermination of so-called impure elements, primarily Jews. The program looks at how these ideas were systematically implemented and includes interviews with two people whose lives were tragically affected. In Germany, Italy, and Japan, militarism led to the waging of aggressive war. War was almost an end in itself, glorified as a process of moral purification while also fulfilling the territorial ambitions of these states. The program examines the inspiration and sense of purpose that war provided, and how, in the end, war proved to be the downfall of most of the fascist states. (49 minutes)
