By the end of the 20th century, virtually all of the worlds monarchies had been swept away by assassination, war, and revolution. This program looks at the royal families who fell from grace, from mighty empires like Austro-Hungary to smaller players like Egypts Farouk and Albanias Zog, and at the still splendid world of Indias maharajahs, who have taught their fellow royals a lesson in how to bow out in style. Among those appearing in the program are Otto, heir to the Hapsburg throne, and former King Michael of Romania, who, say some observers, stands the best chance of being restored to his royal seat.
