Cars

This lighthearted program takes a fascinating look at the history of the automobile—from the beginning of the century when farmers sometimes killed motorists, to the paving of roads and the building of highways, through to the present, when cars are sometimes seen as a symbol of pollution. The program features several experts on automobile history, including Stirling Moss, Nigel Mansell, Lord Montague of Beaulieu, and the artist David Hockney. The program has some very unusual footage, including Hitler’s commissioning of the VW Beetle and the public response to the first parking meters. (49 minutes)
