How is life sustained? This program examines the role of both the sun and the earth in supporting life, looking at our growing needs for energy and the impact this is having on our planet. The program explores ancient myths about the sun and contrasts these with our current scientific knowledge, which explains the role of the sun and the earth in sustaining life. Using a large model of the sun and earth, it becomes clear why there is such a big difference between summer and winter. The program also looks at our ever-growing appetite for energy, and reviews the advantages and disadvantages of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. (15 minutes)
