This CD-ROM provides a resource of pictures, sound, and text covering aspects of life and living processes associated with the worlds major habitats. The material helps to provide an understanding of the wide variety of living things and the way these survive and compete for resources. Choosing pictures from different modules allows comparisons to be made, which can be used to illustrate the existence of food chains and food webs and feeding at different trophic levels. The program provides an introduction to the concepts of biomass, predator-prey relationships, and population pyramids in different ecosystems. It also gives an appreciation of the role of decomposers in the cycling of nutrients and transfer of energy. Habitats covered in the CD-ROM are: mountains, the alpine regions, the Mediterranean, the rain forest, the desert, tropical mountains, the savanna, polar regions, and the temperate forests. Available for Windows only.
