Until now, a diagnosis of this debilitating disease meant uncertainty and despair. Now, thanks to the pioneering efforts of researchers, breakthroughs are being made in treatments that promise hope for patients. In this program, researchers discuss how new drugs, close to approval, and old drugs, such as anti-inflammatories, are being used to alleviate symptoms. In one case study, a patient is treated with nerve growth factor. We also meet a doctor who uses an experimental form of CAT scanning to identify people at risk of developing the disease.
