Martinez grows up in Ohio. He is fascinated with punk music and experiments with drum sounds. He works on "Pee Wee's Playhouse" and creates scores for 10 Steven Soderbergh films including "Sex, Lies, and Videotape," "Traffic," and "Solaris."

Marco Beltrami (02:25)

Beltrami's scores are percussion driven. He creates the score for "The Hurt Locker."

Danny Elfman (02:42)

Elfman's musical career begins with playing in a band. He scores 17 films for Tim Burton including "Batman" and "Spiderman."

Hans Zimmer (03:10)

Zimmer creates the score for "Gladiator," making suggestions to the film editor.

"The Bourne Identity" (02:25)

John Powell composes the score for the 2002 film. He creates a high adrenaline pace within a moody framework.

"Lord of the Rings" (03:15)

Howard Shore scores the trilogy with over 100 leitmotifs. He uses a galloping rhythm to build tension toward the final battle.

Jonny Greenwood (03:52)

Mainstream recording artists transition to film scoring. Greenwood scores "There Will Be Blood." Movie scores are an essential part of telling the story.
