Greece is a country in southern Europe with a population of over 11 million people. The country is divided into three regions: the mainland, the Peloponnese Peninsula, and the islands. The capital and largest city of Greece is Athens, which is also one of the oldest cities in the world. The most famous monument on the Acropolis in Athens is the Parthenon.

The Acropolis: Theater and Museum (03:59)

The Acropolis Museum was built to shelter objects from the monuments and excavations on the Acropolis. It has a surface area of 25,000 square meters, 10 times larger than the old museum, and can exhibit numerous objects that were previously held in storage. Notably, it holds the originals of the caryatids, which were replaced with copies on site.

The Sacred Cape of Athens (05:30)

The first mention of the Cape in the ancient texts occurs in The Odyssey, which mentions Cape Sounion as the sacred Cape of Athens. The ruins of the Temple of Poseidon built in the mid fifth century BC overlook the sea from a height of 60 meters. The pillars of the temple rise 6.1 meters high with a base diameter of 1 meter.

The Delphi archaeological site is where the temple of Apollo and the theater of Dionysus are located. The temple was used to question the oracle about various things, and the stadium was used for nude sporting events.

The Delphi Museum is home to many ancient Greek sculptures and artifacts, including the caryatids, the twins of Argos, and the statue of Kleobis and Biton.

Athenaeum Statues (03:21)

The Archaeological Museum of Corinth is home to a number of ancient artifacts from the city and its surrounding area. The most famous piece in the museum is the Charioteer of Delphi, a bronze statue commemorating a chariot race victory in 478 BC. The museum also contains remains from the Neolithic period, the Peloponnesian War, and the Roman period.
