Intense storms hit Middle America each spring. Keith LaBotz and his daughters Alyssa and Brittany travel every year to chase storms. They stock up on gear in Colorado.
Jeff Aiello, David Boomer, Jon Neely and the LaBotz family drive towards Lubbock in the Texas Panhandle. Keith monitors the National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center. The family has seen 15 tornados.
Aiello, LaBotz, and the group observe cloud shapes. They travel major roads to drive around and behind the storm. Safety is top priority.
The group of storm chasers enters a tornado warning area. Supercell storms are unpredictable. When cell coverage drops, radar apps become useless; the group retreats.
LaBotz and his daughters describe their favorite aspects of storm chasing. They enjoy stopping in old towns during their long days of driving through Tornado Alley.
