Home > South Africa Deaf Marimba Band
Boikano Teffo and other students at the Dominican School for the Deaf participate in the band. Music teacher Joan Lithgow works for NGO Education Africa and teaches the students with help from Rose Moloi.
Lithgow leads the Goede Hoop Primary School marimba band, which includes students from the high-crime area of Reiger Park. The students are close friends, have improved their grades, and perform throughout the country. Lithgow announces the bands will be playing with South African singing group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The Dominican School for the Deaf and Goede Hoop marimba bands prepare to perform "Homeless" with Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The two bands learn to communicate with each other and the Goede Hoop students learn to spell their names in sign language.
