Oral Tradition of Hinduism (04:19)

Hinduism is a view of life that has a vision to offer, and it is a way of life that leads to the understanding of the vision. In the oral tradition of passing on wisdom, at age 12, children begin to memorize the Veda, or book of knowledge.

Hindu Belief in Reincarnation (02:09)

Hindus believe in reincarnation. This means that they believe that at the end of this life their soul will be reborn in another form. Within each lifetime, one continues to become different things, adding more experiences. This is called the "law of 'samsara'."

Hindu Law of Karma (02:36)

Karma means work or actions. Good karma in the last life will mean a better life this time. A bad karma in the last life will mean a hard life this time. The end of "samsara' is called "moksha." This is when the soul joins with Brahman (God).

Hinduism: Everything Is Sacred (02:54)

Most Hindus believe in a unifying force that governs all existence and cannot be completely known by humanity. Individual gods and goddesses are personifications of this cosmic force. In Hinduism, everything is God and all things are sacred.

Hindu Aspects of God (01:14)

There are three primary deities or aspects of God in Hinduism. They are not manifestations of a triune god. Brahma is associated with creation, Vishnu with preservation, and Shiva with destruction.

Hindu Temple (03:39)

Siva Subramanian tours viewers through Sri Siva Vishnu Temple in Lanham, Maryland. Individual shrines within the temple are reminders of God's ubiquity and God's manifestations. Hindus have personal gods they pray to and worship.

Hindu Cosmology/Hindu Worship (04:25)

In the Hindu cosmology there is no distinction between masculine and feminine, so all the manifestations are paired, e.g. Shiva and Parvati. Not a congregational religion, Hinduism is a private affair. Hindus worship in the temple or at home.

Hindu Premise of Self-Awareness (03:30)

Sadhvi Vrnda Chaitanya shares what Hinduism means to her. A premise of Hinduism is that self is self aware, and self is revealing and self-evident.
